Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Warrant
Officers from the Capitola Police Department responded to the scene after receiving a report of a group of people vandalizing in the area. The suspects were seen pulling down handicapped parking signs and bending them towards the ground. A Chevrolet Corvette parked in the parking lot had its windows smashed as well. The suspects were described as wearing baggy pants and riding on skateboards. When officers arrived they observed Daryl Walker, age 27, who matched the description of one of the suspects in the parking lot. Officers observed that Walker had slurred speech and red watery eyes, but he denied any involvement in the vandalism. During questioning Walker took off running along Bay Avenue. Walker was pursued by officers on foot. The officers ordered Walker to stop or they would deploy their tasers. Walker complied and was placed under arrest. When asked why he took off running, Walker told the officers that he was stupid and knew that he had a warrant out for his arrest.

Missing Person’s Skeleton Discovered
The skeletal remains of a man reported missing was discovered by a mushroom hunter in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The hiker discovered the body late Sunday evening and notified the authorities the next day. Detective Mark Gonzales of the Capitola Police Department was notified by Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department due to case evidence that linked the body with a missing persons report filed in Capitola. According to Gonzales, “State law mandates that an agency that receives a missing person report must take the report and forward it to any appropriate agencies. In this case a drug rehabilitation home near Capitola was the last place the man had been seen.” The coroner believes the man is 31-year-old Charles Campbell from Santa Barbara. In February of last year Campbell’s car was discovered near the area where his body was found. At the time Sheriff’s deputies searched for Campbell with negative results. Campbell’s family has been notified and identity confirmation should come sometime this week. The autopsy is not complete and the cause of his death is unknown at this time.

Firefighters Respond to Carbon Monoxide Alarm
Firefighters from the Central Fire Protection District responded to the scene when a resident reported a carbon monoxide detector in the home was triggering an alarm. Firefighters arrived and utilized gas detection equipment to determine there was accumulation of carbon monoxide in the home. According to Battalion Chief Owen Miller, “Carbon monoxide responses are up during this time of year. People tend to use their heaters and fireplaces more as well as close up their houses during the winter so there is not as much airflow.” Miller added that it is a good idea to have a carbon monoxide detector. If the alarm goes off someone should notify the fire department who will determine if there is a problem. If a problem is detected typically PG&E will be notified and respond to check the appliances and determine the cause.
